The last time I did a personal fundraising appeal was several years ago.
I’m still fundraising for the same reason. Within a relatively short period of a few years both my parents suffered from and died from dementia, and so did my father-in-law. Experiencing that was everything you’d expected, in terms of distress, trauma and stress. But it was also bewildering: my family didn’t know at the time what to do or who to turn to, and we felt very alone.
I now know that was one thing we could have had help with. Dementia UK is an extraordinary charity, which fundraises and supports those with all types of dementia, and those who care for them. But it is also unique, in offering specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, who provide life-changing advice and support, to anyone affected by dementia, whenever it is needed.
And that’s the reason I’ll be jumping out of an aeroplane on 7 August. Whenever I raise the topic of dementia, I end up speaking to so many people who have experience of it, and it will – tragically – come to most families at some point.
I’m delighted that the Innovation Department at Mishcon de Reya LLP chose Dementia UK as its supported charity, and this silly jump is just one part of our fundraising.
But it would be fantastic if you could make a donation.

hiya!
is there some way we sponsor you for your jump? Or do we just donate to Dementia UK?
I would like to in some way link my donation to your impressive commitment to jump from a plane!
cheers
Ah Doug – you’re a great chap, especially because you didn’t call me out for being a doofus, and forgetting to put the donation link! (Now added).
